Saturday will be a great day for book lovers in the Princeton area and beyond. A free book swap will be held in Princeton and Lawrence. If you have books you would like to part with (it’s hard, we know!), add your information to the list online and put your books in a box on your curb, driveway, or sidewalk on Saturday morning. If you’d like to discover some new reading treasures, browse the book swap locations online and stop by a few to pick up some free books. (The rain date is Sept. 13)

The popular annual Princeton Children’s Book Festival won’t be held in person this fall because of the pandemic, but you can still celebrate children’s books online with the Princeton Public Library Saturday at the virtual book jam.

Most of the farm markets in the region are still in full swing and will be until late October or November. Stop by a market or two this weekend and pick up some fresh produce and other local goods. The markets have social distancing protocols in place.

Saturday, September 12

Montgomery Friends of Open Space Farmers’ Market  – The market features local organic fruits and veggies, fresh eggs, jams, soups, pasta sauces, chicken, pot pies, fruit pies, sausages, and more. Village Shops at Montgomery, 1378 Route 206, Skillman. 9 a.m. to noon. More information

Pennington Farmers Market – Purchase local vegetables, meats, eggs, wine, herbs, wool, honey, maple syrup, bread, pastries, and more from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Rosedale Mills, 101 Route 31 North, Hopewell.

West Windsor Farmers Market – Fresh produce, meats, baked goods, and more. Food drive ongoing. Face masks required. Bring your own bags. Limit of two shoppers per family. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Princeton Junction Train Station parking lot. Entrance off Vaughn Drive. 

Outdoor Flea Market, Princeton Elks Lodge – Eclectic mix of items for sale at this fun and friendly flea market. Weather permitting, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Princeton Elks Lodge, 354 Rt 518 in Blawenburg.

Yard Sale, Ewing Township Historic Preservation Society – 27 Federal City Road, Ewing. www.ethps.org. Rain date September 13. 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Saturday Morning Walking ClubLawrence Hopewell Trail – Socially-distanced, 4.5-mile round-trip walk including the new 500-foot pedestrian bridge at Mercer Meadows to a new stretch of the trail to Old Mill Road. Walkers will be divided into groups of 20 or fewer and must wear masks. 9:30 a.m. Rosedale Lake Parking Lot. www.lhtrail.org.

Princeton and Lawrence Free Book Day – Building on the recent success of free book days in Pennington and Hopewell, 2020 high school graduate Anna Salvatore will host Princeton and Lawrence’s version of the free book exchange from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information

Garden State Organic – Princeton Be Clean, Be Green Kick Off Party – The New Jersey Environmental Lobby will host a free virtual education program from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to kick off a new campaign “Garden State Organic – Princeton, Be Clean, Be Green.” The event will be streamed live from Tortuga’s outdoor dining area. Princeton Public Library Book Jam – Things may be different this year, but young readers can still interact with favorite authors and illustrators when Princeton Public Library presents the Book via Crowdcast. Created in collaboration with longtime Princeton Children’s Book Festival sponsor jaZams, Book Jam will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information

Seuls en Scene French Theater FestivalLewis Center for the Arts – French theater artists Sandy Ouvrier and Astrid Bayiha read a few of their favorite tragic scenes by Jean Racine, centered on unrequited love.
