Now playing this weekend: Two indie films that got their start at Sundance back in January, and an A-List thriller that's getting an "F" from most critics.
Here's a look at three new movies on the big screen.
"Save Yourselves!" got 'em laughing in Park City during the Sundance Film Festival. A couple from the big city heads to a remote cabin to try to turn off the rest of the world and work on their relationship. Trouble is, the world they left is being attacked! John Reynolds and Sunita Mani are great as the clueless couple. The movie's a comedy that also has a bit campy sci-fi feel. It's a fun trip during these crazy times.
"The Last Shift" is the kind of "social justice warrior" film the people at Sundance pride themselves in presenting. Richard Jenkins is great as a guy who's happily spent his entire working life in fast food. Now, he's training his replacement — played by another strong actor, Shane Paul McGhie. His character's a guy on probation for defacing a federal monument and insulting a police officer. You get the idea.
And finally, one that didn't deserve all of its talented actors: "Ava," starring none other than two-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe and Critics Choice winner Jessica Chastain. There's nothing new in this spy thriller that scored a 19 out of 100 on Rotten Tomatoes.
So if you're itching to get back in a theater, Save Yourselves is your best bet.
