Book Nook: Conversations with Angela Davis - WYSO

senewsberita.blogspot.com

Last year I moderated a panel discussion on race at the Clark County
Public Library. One of our panelists that evening was Sharon Lynette
Jones, a professor at Wright State University. Afterwards we were
gathering for a group photo when she mentioned that she was editing a
book of interviews with Angela Davis. She wondered, would this be
something I might want to feature on the program?

Of course I was familiar with Angela Davis. Anybody who recalls the
events of the early 1970's should probably remember her. She was front
page news then. They said she was a radical. President Richard M. Nixon
called her a "terrorist." They arrested her.

She has been speaking out against injustice now for over half a century.
In the book "Conversations with Angela Davis" readers encounter a
brilliant, articulate speaker who is willing to tell it like it is. The
views she expresses about what she describes as our "prison industrial
complex" are scalding.

When Sharon asked me about possibly doing an interview with her about
this book I replied, of course, please let me know when it comes out.
And so she did.

Here is my interview with Sharon Lynette Jones, the editor of
"Conversations with Angela Davis."

The Book Nook on WYSO is presented by the Greene County Public Library with additional support from Washington-Centerville Public Library, Clark County Public Library, Dayton Metro Library, and Wright Memorial Public Library.
