WASTHENAW COUNTY, MI - Look at a map of protected farmland and nature preserves in Washtenaw County two decades ago and you’d see a few splotches of green dotting Washtenaw County: state recreation areas, Ann Arbor parks and the occasional rural conservation tract. But large swaths land had none of that.

Fast forward to today and those natural areas blanket the map. And, for some 16 years, one woman has played a steady role in shaping those thousands of acres for generations to come.
