For the history buff dad: Aug. 15 will be the 75th anniversary of the allied force’s victory over Japan. Dick Lehr’s artfully woven book "Dead Reckoning: The Story of How Johnny Mitchell and his Fighter Pilots Took on Admiral Yamamoto and Avenged Pearl Harbor,” focuses on the attack that resulted in the United States entering the global conflict. According to a ★★★½ review by David Holahan for USA TODAY, "(Lehr) tells this white-knuckle tale and sheds new light on an important, albeit little-remembered turning point in the war." For the dad who is a fan of the classics: “To Kill a Mockingbird,” by Harper Lee features arguably the all-time-greatest literary dad, Atticus Finch. So it is the perfect book to share with your own father on Father's Day. With its constant presence on best-sellers list, this title never goes out of style, and that is what makes it a classic.

For the dad who likes a good mystery: In "Eight Perfect Murders" author Peter Swanson summons several classic whodunnits into a new and engaging story. In the book, not long after the protagonist, bookseller and mystery aficionado Malcolm Kershaw, compiles a list of the genre’s most unsolvable murders, the FBI comes knocking on his door investigating a series of murders that are eerily similar. In a ★★★ review for USA TODAY,  Don Oldenburg called the book an "engagingly original psychological suspense novel." Read the review.

For the self-improvement dad: Chances are if your dad is into self-help, he will gladly take advice rather than give it. And in “Atomic Habits: An Easy and Proven Way to Build Good Habits and Break Bad Ones,” author James Clear offers advice on improving one's life, breaking bad habits and creating good habits one small change at a time. The book has repeatedly returned to the USA TODAY Best-Sellers list since the book’s publication in 2018.

For the socially conscious dad: Ibram X. Kendi's book “How to be an Anti-Racist” y looks at what racism is and how as a nation we knowingly and unknowingly support policies that perpetuate it. The book is one of the top-selling books on race that have exploded on the Best-Sellers list since the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.
