Author Louise Erdrich’s “The Plague of Doves,” a Minnesota Book Award winner and finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, is the third selection in the statewide book club “One Book | One Minnesota.”
Readers will have free, unlimited access to the e-book into December through “One Book,” presented by Friends of the St. Paul Public Library acting as Minnesota Center for the Book, in partnership with State Library Services, a division of the Minnesota Department of Education. The statewide book club’s aim is to read a common title and come together to reflect and discuss.
The e-book is available through local libraries and, new with this third installment, the audio book is available for free through EBooks Minnesota for eight weeks.
“The Plague of Doves” is the first book in Erdrich’s loosely connected trilogy that includes “The Round House” and “LaRose.” In “The Plague of Doves,” the unsolved murder of a farm family haunts the small, white off-reservation town of Pluto, N.D. Erdrich is a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa in North Dakota. She lives in Minnesota with her daughters and is the owner of Birchbark Books, a small independent bookstore.
The first two books in “One Book” were Kate DiCamillo’s “Because of Winn-Dixie” and “A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota.”
Through “One Book,” Minnesotans will be invited to read the featured book selection and will have access to author videos, reading guides and virtual book club discussions. There will be a free, statewide virtual discussion with the author on Dec. 8.
