Local author Donna J. Burch just released her 18th book online, which is the second of a three-novel spy series.
“The Family Life of Spies” is Burch’s 18th book written in a two-year period. Fifteen of Burch’s books were written for children, teens and adults, while one is a travel cross-country guide featuring Burch and husband Russell.
Her most recent works are a spy series: “Once in a Lifetime Spies,” and the latest one published on Feb. 26, ”The Family Life of Spies.” All of the books are sold on www.amazon.com under the name of Donna J. Burch.
“The Family Life of Spies” features Isabella — an incredibly beautiful woman with shoulder length, light brown hair. “Bella” had the largest dark brown eyes with long eyelashes, as well as dark, Italian skin. She is 5-feet, 8-inches tall with an hourglass body that women and men admired. At the age of 24, Bella had a yearning for an exciting, interesting and somewhat adventurous life. She grew up in Milan, Italy and was an only child. Her parents tried to provide her with everything that she wanted. Her parents both worked, but she never knew exactly what they did. They did not discuss it at home in front of her, and Bella always wondered why that was.
Bella was not very close with her parents. She loved them, but there was never anything physical in their home. She never saw her parents hug or kiss. They never said the words, “I love you” to each other or to her. That was always something that she wanted in her life.
She also wanted a career and wanted to travel, and during her first year in college, her parents were both killed in a boat accident. They never found their bodies, so there was never a funeral or any closure for her. Isabella kind of tucked it back in her mind and tried not to think about it.
Isabella would eventually graduate from Oxford University at the top of her class with a master’s degree in political science and a minor in art. She had met many unique individuals throughout her time in Oxfordshire, England. Students traveled long distances and were from many different countries to attend the university there.
It was one of the best ways to meet extraordinary, mysterious, and connected people.
She became best friends with her roommate, Elizabeth, who was extremely gorgeous with wavy blonde hair down to the middle of her back. She had creamy white soft skin because she was born in Stockholm, Sweden. Liz had sparkling, vibrant blue eyes with plump cherry lips. Liz did not discuss her family much with Bella. It was just understood that she never wanted to talk about it or her feelings, because it was not a particularly good life. So Bella never asked any questions. The two of them were kind of meant to be together.
They planned to travel all over the world together after graduation before they settled down with a career in their field. Liz had the same major as Isabella, except that her minor was in criminal science. They hoped to work together wherever they landed in a year or two.
Liz and Bella had both worked during college at the local government offices in Oxfordshire as interns and were paid for their hours worked. They both tried to save as much of their pay as they could to afford their future world travels.
The two of them discussed their dreams and they were both so similar. Liz wanted the exact life that Bella wanted. That made them strive to make it happen.
Isabella and Liz both dated many wealthy men who held jobs as foreign officials, dignitaries, ambassadors, and some directors in the CIA. They were wined and dined and attended very fancy galas, fund-raisers, and political events all the time. They were accustomed to men paying for their evening gowns and attire and being picked up in chauffer driven limousines. The men who dated them enjoyed their companionship because they were not only beautiful, but they were both so worldly and politically intelligent that they blended in with the other guests so well at all the events.
Their lease was paid up until the end of the month which gave them time to sell most of their belongings, put the remainder in storage and figure out exactly what they wanted to take with them on their adventure.
Isabella and Elizabeth were intrigued with their new lives of wining and dining with famous wealthy people. They enjoyed wearing designer clothes without having to pay for them and staying in the Presidential Suites in all of the hotels where they traveled.
There were always limousines to chauffer them around and bodyguards to protect them. Until the murders, explosions, fires, and gun fire began to be a common, every-day experience. They feared for their lives and the others around them. Maybe they made the wrong choices. Did they throw away their college education to live in a life of luxury or murder?
Burch worked in the financial market for more than 26 years as an investigator, manager of a bank, supervisor of several different departments in the back office and was an assistant vice-president.
She also worked as a director of development for the Rome Rescue Mission as well as volunteered in the community for several not-for-profit organizations and was on many boards. She is an acrylic artist and instructor and has sold many paintings as well. Her one goal in life was to become an author and she has accomplished that goal, she said.
Burch said work on Book 3 of her spy series is already under way.
