Several Lake County sheriff’s deputies and Canine Dax located a missing man who was unconscious and not breathing and performed life-saving measures on him early Monday morning in Ingleside.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 12:20 a.m. Monday to a home in the 35800 block of North Hunt Avenue in Ingleside for a report of a suicidal person call.

Dispatchers learned that a 37-year-old man sliced his wrists open and fled from the residence on foot.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli said that Sheriff’s Deputy John Forlenza and Canine Dax were also called to the scene.

Deputies arrived and located a large amount of blood in the home and Deputy Forlenza and Dax arrived at the scene a short time later.

Dax conducted an immediate track. He located the man’s scent and tracked out the back door of the home and started tracking in a southwest direction.

Dax then turned and tracked to the north, directly to a shed in the rear of the property, Covelli said.

Deputy Chase Skrypek opened the door to the shed and found the man inside unconscious and not breathing.

Deputy Forlenza and Deputy Skrypek carried the man out of the shed and began CPR. Deputy Michael McCarty arrived and assisted with CPR until paramedics arrived.

The man began breathing and regained consciousness before paramedics arrived. He was transported to an area hospital for his injuries and for a mental health evaluation.

“This is yet another outstanding example of the dedication and devotion our sheriff’s deputies have to the Lake County community,” Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg said.

“The number one priority of everyone working at the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is to always maintain the respect and dignity of every human life – Deputies Forlenza, Skrypek, McCarty, and K9 Dax did just that and undoubtedly saved this man’s life,” Idleburg added.
