“Some of my author friends and I have dubbed this hot book summer,” he said during a recent phone interview. “It’s just insane with all the books coming out, so we want to get that trending somewhere on Twitter, but it hasn’t caught on yet.”
With so many new books recently published or slated to drop in the next few months, Sager looked through a long list of releases and narrowed down the ones he’s the most excited about diving into while he soaks up the sunshine and warmer weather.
“Bath Haus” by P.J. VernonPublished June 15 by Doubleday
“With this one, they did send me an advance copy and I was like ‘Well, who am I to say no?’ I haven’t read it yet, but I’ve heard it’s just like a white-knuckle read from start to finish. It’s about a guy who has this elicit hookup at a bathhouse, even though he’s married to this doctor. The person he hooks up with almost kills him and he can’t say anything because he wasn’t supposed to be there.”
“Razorblade Tears” by S.A. CosbyPublishes July 6 through Flatiron Books
“This one is about two fathers, one Black and one White, whose sons were lovers and they were murdered. Those fathers go on this quest for revenge and I just like this idea.”
“Falling” by T.J. NewmanPublishes July 6 by Simon and Schuster
“You’ll be hearing a lot from T.J. Newman because she has this great story. She was a flight attendant and she came up with this idea for this book while working on a flight. So, the flight is full of people and the pilot has been told, ‘We have your family and we will kill them unless you crash this plane.’ I heard the premise alone, and I was like, I am 100 percent jealous I didn’t come up with that.”
“Such a Quiet Place” by Megan MirandaPublishes July 13 by Simon and Schuster
“Megan Miranda is just so good and the sweetest person. In ‘Such a Quiet Place, there’s a murder in this quiet neighborhood and the person that the whole neighborhood thinks did it, returns. It looks really good.”
“The Husbands” by Chandler BakerPublishes Aug. 3 by Flatiron Books
“I’ve been dying to get an advance copy of this … but I’ll wait like everyone else and I will buy it. It sounds like a variation on ‘The Stepford Wives’ where it’s this neighborhood where all these women are wildly successful with all of these beautiful stay at home husbands. But there’s something sinister going on there and I can’t wait to find out what that is.”
