OROVILLE, Calif. - One author from Oroville just published a book, Polly Pine Cone, aimed at helping kids cope with Camp Fire trauma.
Action News Now met with author Gail D'Arcy, who also wrote Stanley Starfish, she explained why writing the book was so important to her.
D'Arcy said what prompted her to write this specific book was working with students before.
"I used to read my stories to second graders that is where I was stuck. Second and third graders. The teacher there suggested when I finished the stories they let the students write what happened to Stanley next," said D'Arcy.
D'Arcy chose a pine cone for a specific reason.
"Pine cones don't quit, I mean I still have some for years and years that I break out for Christmas." said D'Arcy.
D'Arcy says the purpose of the book isn't to make a profit, but to help kids in Paradise.
"My idea wasn't to make money, but I have put a considerable amount of money into this, so I would love to get that back. But I wanted to give the kids who were traumatized by the fire in Paradise an opportunity to express themselves and provide some healing," said D'Arcy.
D'Arcy added she plans to reach out to Paradise Unified School District about getting her book out to the schools.
D'Arcy says it took longer to get the book published because of COVID-19.
