MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — Middletown Illustrator Gayle Cobb, 28, is celebrating a career milestone: Publishing her first book.
“Made my dream come true,” Cobb said.
Cobb’s new book "Sacred Gift" serves a specific purpose. It shows and explains the 13-steps of folding and presenting the American Flag at a military funeral.
“This book is an inspiration from an experience I had,” she said. “My papaw, James Robert Cashen, was a B-17 ball-turret gunner in World War II. So, he actually had this ceremony of the folding of the flags.”
In addition to explaining the process through illustration, she said the book can be a memento for military families.
But the book is also serving another purpose.
Proceeds from the book sales are going directly to the construction of the Fairfield Township Veterans Memorial and some of Cobb’s art will appear there as well.
“That’s pretty cool, I’m not gonna lie,” Cobb said. “To me, it’s pretty exciting because when I get older and have kids, I can just go to the memorial and be like hey, I did that and that, you know? And these two images and the book helped construct the memorial. So, it’s gonna be pretty exciting.”
The book can be purchased only through donations to the Fairfield Township Veterans Memorial Committee — smething Cobb hopes people will consider.
“I’d say do it,” she said. “You will not regret it. You’ll not only help memorialize the people who have fought for our country, but you’ll also get the book that solidifies what it means for someone to die for our county.”
