The Friends of LaGrange Memorial Library are hosting a discussion and book signing with LaGrange author James Codlin, co-author of “A Vial Upon the Sun.”
The event will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the library’s temporary location, 525 Park Ave.
Codlin’s book has been likened to the novels of Dan Brown, Daniel Silva and Raymond Koury, as noted in a press release from the LaGrange College.
“A Vial” follows reporter Gina Ishikawa, who is covering the ascendance of the young new pope, as she teams with history professor Teodoro Lenin, television media technician Dennis Prinn, and revolutionary terrorist Nicolás Ibarra in a race across Latin America to save her father and expose the New Inquisition to the world, according to the book’s description. Armed with nothing but their own knowledge, courage, and skills, they face paid assassins, a military coup, and a nuclear threat.
Codlin is a B.R.A.G. Medallian Award Winner, and his work was voted one of IndieReader’s best-reviewed books in September 2019.
He co-wrote “The Vial” with his son, Craig Codlin.
Codlin received a master’s degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Minnesota and served five years as a navigator in the Air Force.
He retired from a 42-year career in international business having traveled extensively in Latin America, Europe and Asia.
He was active with the Atlanta District Export Council and served on an international panel to advise the railroad transit system of Hong Kong.
He speaks fluent Spanish and has a working knowledge of Portuguese, Italian and French.
He and his wife, Terri currently live in LaGrange.
