Temple Town Hall will host a combined COVID-19 vaccination clinic and used-book sale Saturday, Nov. 6, a result of a joint effort between the town’s historical society and library trustees.
Honey Hastings, president of the historical society and one of the library trustees, thinks it’s important due to low vaccination in the area.
“I thought we needed it because the rates, they’re not high enough,” she said.
Hastings got the idea for the event after seeing other local town libraries host vaccine clinics.
“I was inspired from that,” she said, “but also because we didn’t have one when we had the Harvest Festival, which is our big social event.”
The clinic is combined with the used book sale to “get some books in people’s hands,” Library Director Beth Crooker said. The library has thousands of books stored, she said, almost all of them donated.
“It’s a lot of popular fiction and children’s books and nonfiction,” Crooker said. “It’s kind of fun when you do a used-book sale and see what people in town are interested in.”
Hastings hopes people will be interested in both events, and that those who haven’t gotten COVID-19 vaccinations might be encouraged to get them if they’re already there for the book sale.
“I don’t know how many people will come to both,” she said. “Come buy books or get a shot or both.”
Doses available at the clinic will be Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson, with boosters available for the Pfizer shot for those eligible. Those getting shots do not have to bring insurance cards or make an appointment, and registration can be done on-site. People getting their second dose or booster should bring their vaccination card.
Boosters will be available to those 65 or older, and those 18-64 who are in long-term care settings, have underlying medical conditions, or are at increased risk of COVID-19 exposure and transmission due to occupation or living space.
In order to receive the booster, one must also have received Pfizer as their first two doses, and the second dose must have been received at least six months prior to the booster.
The clinic and book sale will open to people outside of Temple as well.
The clinic, hosted by the Greater Monadnock Public Health Network, will be in the Town Hall Annex from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The book sale will be in the main hall of the Town Hall, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with an early-bird preview available at 8 a.m. with a $2 entry fee.
