The New Orleans Saints added their first quarterback in the post-Drew Brees era on Saturday, taking Notre Dame signal-caller Ian Book in the fourth round (No. 133) of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Book, the winningest quarterback in Fighting Irish history, went 30-5 during three seasons as a starter in South Bend. He threw for 2,830 yards, 15 touchdowns and three interceptions in 12 games last season, as Notre Dame reached the College Football Playoff before falling to Alabama.
The Saints also have Jameis Winston, who re-signed on a one-year, $5.5 million deal as a free agent, and Taysom Hill as quarterbacks competing to replace Brees, who retired in March after a 20-year career.
