Searching for novel coffee-table books? Look no further.

In that final instance, Kramer even made it to Live With Regis and Kathie Lee to show off his tome, and to do a demonstration. But while the fictional publication’s meta-meaning was only redoubled by its subject (you guessed it—it featured an assortment of coffee tables), a new real-life publication is giving that fictional piece of publishing history a run for its money.
Gio Ponti, a luxury art book which was published earlier this month by Taschen, and retails for $3,500 on 1stDibs, is a tour de force investigation of the designer’s oeuvre. Design buffs everywhere are sure to take note of its carefully collected contents, which were assembled with the help of the Gio Ponti Archives. Nonetheless, true Ponti collectors are likely to be lured by one especially enticing bonus of purchase—each of the numbered editions (there are only 1,000 in existence) is accompanied by the Planchart Coffee Table. Or put another way, a reproduction of the well-known Arlecchino design. It also notably comes with four prints.
Wherever Cosmo Kramer is today, he’s likely feeling more than a wee bit jealous. Because besides offering customers what he had arguably first envisioned, the product is of course the well-designed real deal in terms of substance and style—not just heft.
“The book meticulously illustrates the work of one of the most important personalities of Italian culture,” Salvatore Licitra, curator of the compendium, comments to AD. “Through Ponti’s work, it is possible to travel through six decades of Italian cultural life, where his creativity was always able to be expressed.… It is a particularly precious book because it also tells the story of Gio Ponti’s character alongside his works, just as Ponti himself did in his writings and in his relationships with clients, which were never exclusively professional but nourished by meaningful personal encounters. . . .”
And if all that isn’t intriguing enough, consider this: “I think we can say that this would be the book that Gio Ponti would have wanted; an open book, welcoming and full of suggestions and enthusiasm,” Licitra reflects. A unique offering within the world of coffee table books, for sure.
