MEDINA – Jaideth Cooper, a 14-year-old student, can add “published author” to her resume which is something that sets her apart from many other students, especially those her age.

Cooper is home schooled and lives in Medina with her family. Her book, “The Unnamed Dimension,” is available on Amazon.

“My book is about a family that travels to another dimension and their daughter gets separated and ends up going on an adventure in this dimension,” said Cooper. “This idea has been developing for a while. It’s gone through a lot of changes but, when I started writing this version of it, I just felt like this was right and I kept going with it and I couldn’t stop.”

Her book is over 300 pages long and it took her about two to three months for her to write.

“It was something I did on my own in my free time. At first, it was just like a writing exercise and then it became like an actual book,” said Cooper.

She shared that this was the first book she ever finished. Previously, she would start writing and stop part way through but this one was different.

“But this one, I really like this idea and I continued with it and I wanted people to be able to read it,” said Cooper.

Her dad helped her with the cover art and the publishing process and she spoke about what it was like writing her first book.

“Really, you have to write your first book and look through it, read it a couple times to edit it and make sure everything is exactly how you want it and you have a cover image and you publish it through Amazon Publishing,” said Cooper. “You have to make sure it ends right, enough that they want to know what comes next but, they’re not dissatisfied, you don’t them on a cliffhanger while they’re waiting for so long.”

Publishing a book would be an exciting experience for anyone, but at 14 it is very unique.

“I think finally being able to hold it ... and know I put this out in the world and people can read this,” said Cooper about the best part of publishing this book.

Being a part of a homeschooling program enable Cooper to write her book as it offers the flexibility, she needed to write her book.

“Because, homeschooling, you have a set amount of work for the day. It’s not like you have homework. You can finish it everything in the morning and you have the rest of the day to write as you please,” said Cooper.

She said that it feels so good to be able to have people notice her work. She wants to make her book the first in a trilogy and is already working on the next one in her series.

“I have always been into science fiction and fantasy. I read all of Harry Potter in first grade so, I just wanted to write something like that,” said Cooper.

Her next book, she shared, will incorporate some experiences that 2020 and 2021 brought with them into her fantasy dimension.

This experience made her dream of becoming a published author a reality. Cooper explained that, if she could go back, she would make the decision to write and publish her book all over again.
