Last week, Myakka residents voted in favor for the new tax that is expected to help lower their taxes.
“We have the highest fire taxes in the county,” says David Cacchiotti, Myakka City Fire Chief. “Residents pay up to $600 a year with their fire tax.”
If the Fire Referendum is approved by the county, the Myakka City Fire Department will merge with the East Manatee Fire Department.
“The majority of the Myakka taxpayers will see anywhere from $100 to $300 in savings with the merger,” says Cacchiotti. “We will also be able to get some new equipment for the department.”
The county is expected to vote for the referendum on Tuesday.
“I was pleased with the folks in the community, because they are ultimately going to benefit,” says Cacchiotti.
