Loccisano’s, which has served Ellwood City for more than 100 years, will transform into Shop ’n Save beginning Aug. 17 and will remain open to the public during the transition period.
ELLWOOD CITY – Loccisano’s is getting more than a face lift in the coming weeks.
The family-owned grocery story has been acquired by Shop ’n Save, adding Loccisano’s Golden Dawn to its more than 80 stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, New York and West Virginia.
Loccisano’s, which has served Ellwood City for more than 100 years, will transform into Shop ’n Save beginning Aug. 17 and will remain open to the public during the transition period.
David and Tammy Morini, owners of the soon-to-be Shop ‘n Save space, plan to operate the grocery location as usual while overseeing upgrades and renovations in the coming weeks.
Since 1919, the Morini and Kotuby families have managed supermarkets throughout the area, including retail locations on Wampum, Lawrence and Spring avenues.
David and Tammy mark the fourth generation committed to delivering fresh, locally-sourced groceries to the Ellwood City region. In becoming Shop ’n Save, the store will expand its departments and provide new offerings, without sacrificing the hometown feel of Loccisano’s, they said.
"As a family-owned business, we understand the importance of creating a safe and enjoyable retail experience for all neighborhood shoppers. We couldn’t be more excited to serve our community as part of the Shop ‘n Save brand," said owner David Morini.
"Because we’ll be operating as an essential business, we feel it’s important to keep our doors open while we revamp the store’s interior, source local products and incorporate new offerings for patrons to enjoy," he said. "We’re incredibly humbled to bring a true community partner like Shop ‘n Save to the area, and together, our goal is to provide the region with a one-stop-shop for quality products and everyday low prices. We know residents will appreciate that convenience as much as we do."
Store offerings will include an onsite butcher delivering high-quality, fresh cut meats daily as well as a full-service deli and variety of fresh foods, including meats, locally-sourced produce, prepared meals, dairy and frozen foods as well as an expanded produce section.
Customers will still find many of the same products special to Loccisano’s. Signature items made from Loccisano family recipes as well as meat department favorites that have become widely known throughout the community will remain.
In addition to the hometown favorites, under the Shop ‘n Save brand, the store will tout several new offerings, such as private label products like Wild Harvest and Essential Everyday.
Shoppers will also be able to sign up for the Shop ‘n Save Perks Card program to receive Pump Perks, personalized discounts and weekly savings in-store. The Shop ‘n Save Students Extra Educational Development (S.E.E.D.) program enables registered patrons to help bring free assemblies from the Carnegie Science Center and Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium to local schools throughout the area simply by purchasing their everyday groceries.
Through the Shop ‘n Save mobile app, customers will be able to check their Pump Perks balance, access eCoupons, view weekly ads, check their S.E.E.D. balance, create a shopping list, search for recipes and order groceries from the Ellwood City location. All online orders placed in the app will be fulfilled through Instacart to deliver fresh products straight to customers’ doorsteps.
David and Tammy Morini said they would like to thank the Loccisano family for the opportunity to serve the community. The couple looks forward to continuing offering a superior shopping experience in the Ellwood City region.
The supermarket located at 234 Pittsburgh Circle will remain open daily and a grand opening ceremony for Shop ‘n Save will be announced at a later date. For more information, visit www.shopnsavefood.com.
